Neutrogena Complete Acne System :: Day Two
So far, so good. I’ve been able to maintain the Neutrogena acne system regimen, despite a 2-year-old who didn’t go to bed until 10:30 last night and woke up at 6a.m. this morning. The chin zit isn’t looking much better today, though; maybe a slight drying at the edges, but nothing dramatic. Overall, I have to say my skin is looking better, with a definite reduction in the blackhead population and a visible reduction in the appearance of the pores. I’m also not seeing any of the flaking or redness I sort of expected with the benzoyl/salicylic combo.
On the down side, I am noticing that my wrinkles (yes, I have some) seem more pronounced. I looked this up, and found a doctor’s post on the AARP website that talks about this conundrum. (Yes, I’m only 37, but it was the simplest explanation I found for what’s probably going on. Thanks, AARP!) Dr. Leslie Baumann says there, “As skin ages, it becomes drier and thinner (even acne-prone skin can be dry on the surface).” The benzoyl saps your skin of moisture, causing wrinkles to look more pronounced. So there ya go.
The patient Baumann was discussing actually complicated matters by using anti-aging moisturizers, which clogged her pores and made her acne worse. Duly noted.
